Travelling with your bike on the train
In 4 easy steps, you will get your cycling holiday on track:
- Find the train stations that connect with your cycling holiday route. Check the NMBS network map for an overview of all train connections and train stations. Along every iconic cycle route, you will find a great many train stations.
- Then use the BikeOnTrain planner to choose the easiest train connection. These are trains with a low boarding step and enough space for bikes. On the BikeOnTrain planner, you can also see in advance how many places for bikes on the train are available in total.
Tip: try to avoid rush hour trains as much as possible. - Then buy your train ticket (online) at NMBS and choose the Bike Supplement. You pay 4 euros per bike per single journey, regardless of the destination in Flanders or Belgium.
- Arrive at the station on time and speak to the train conductor before boarding. That way, the train conductor knows immediately that you’re bringing a bike on board and can tell you where the train carriage(s) for bikes is/are (and if necessary help you get your bike on and off the train).
Tip: the BikeOnTrain planner lets you view the train composition in advance, so you will already know in which carriage(s) you can put your bike.
