Day 7: From Horebeke to Lede
Seven days, 300 kilometres and a few showers of rain further, we decide to gauge the energy level of the children. “Do we feel like cycling towards the Coast for another 4 days?” The answer of the children is not overwhelmingly enthusiastic. No problem, then today will be the last day of cycling. Anything goes, nothing is compulsory. Another great thing about a cycling trip.
After some digging in the NMBS BikeonTrainplanner, we learn that the nearest direct and suitable train today departs every hour from Lede. To get there, we map out a route via the nodes. In the late afternoon we are standing on the platform, ready for our return.
And then what? The spacious bicycle carriage is packed with cyclists and bicycle bags. Perhaps because of the bank holiday tomorrow. Or because cycling holidays are the trend this summer?
In the evening we arrive home. But not before we take a detour from the station to enjoy some delicious fries. On a terrace. Where else. And in the rain, under an awning.
